There is no standard code of ethics for translators or interpreters. In fact, each professional association (for example, associations of court interpreters or medical interpreters) and each local, state or national organization or agency has its own code of ethics.

However, most translator and interpreter codes of ethics address the following seven points:

  Competence
  Cultural Bridging
  Confidentiality
  Neutrality
  Accuracy and Completeness
  Role Boundaries
